Foundation repair in University City

University City's blocks of early-1900s brick homes, many of them big, solid and close together, sit near the River des Peres. Heavy masonry and a creek that floods in big storms shape most of the work here.

Heavy brick on clay

Two-and-a-half-story brick homes are heavy, which is good news for push piers: the house itself provides the force to drive them. Settlement in these homes often shows as cracks above windows and doors on one side and floors that slope toward one wall.

Water near the River des Peres

Streets near the river channel have flooded in severe storms, including the July 2022 flash flooding that hit parts of University City hard. Homes on lower ground benefit from a working sump with a battery backup, a backflow check on the discharge and an interior drain if the cove joint leaks.

Sewer backups are a different problem. Water coming up through a floor drain during storms is usually a sewer issue, not a foundation one. A licensed plumber handles backflow devices on sewer lines; we can point you to what the inspection shows.

Tight lots

Narrow side yards and shared driveways are common, so many U City jobs use interior pier and drain work or careful hand digging outside. We plan the access with you before the price is set.

Call or send the form. An inspector measures the house, explains what is moving and why, and puts the repair and its price on paper before anything is dug.
